Professor Dartanian Bagby had owned and operated Dartanian Jiu Jitsu for over 25 years, during which time many students came and went, achieving numerous feats under his guidance as head instructor and owner. As time passed, he began to search for a worthy successor to pass on his knowledge and the reins to, just as you often see in movies. Finally, he found a student who was up to the task in Gustavo Toledo, one of his pupils. In April of 2022, Professor Dartanian relinquished his title as head instructor, and Gustavo took over the academy, teaching under the watchful eye of Professor Dartanian. Gustavo refreshed the look of the school and changed its name to signify a new chapter in its history.

The name Studio 93 holds a special significance. On Valentine's Day, February 14, 2022, Professor Gustavo's younger brother Steven Toledo passed away after an eight-year battle with cancer. Steven Toledo was born on September 27, 1993, and thus the 93 in Studio 93 was chosen in his honor. The first two letters of the word "Studio" are "ST," which were Steven Toledo's initials. Professor Gustavo thought it fitting that the school be named after his brother, who fought courageously and valiantly for so long. Steven Toledo was also a Jiu Jitsu practitioner and had achieved the rank of Blue Belt before his passing.

After Gustavo Toledo took over as head instructor, he continued the legacy of excellence that Professor Dartanian had established. With his extensive knowledge of Jiu Jitsu and his deep passion for teaching, Gustavo quickly became a favorite among his students. He brought a fresh perspective to the school, introducing new techniques and training methods to help students achieve their goals.

Professor Gustavo will never forget the reason he chose the name Studio 93. Steven Toledo has remained a constant source of inspiration to Professor Gustavo, and he often speaks of his brother's courage and determination. He's made sure that his students know the story behind the school's name, and that they understand the importance of never giving up in the face of adversity.

Today, Studio 93 continues to thrive under Gustavo Toledo's leadership. The school remains a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of honoring those who have inspired us. And though Steven Toledo may no longer be with us, his legacy lives on through the Jiu Jitsu practitioners who train at Studio 93 and through the lives he touched during his time on this earth.
